“If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing." - 1 Corinthians 13:2
When was the last time you slowed down? I mean REALLY slowed down. The kind of slow that allows you to see the small things that God is doing to get your attention each and every day.
I for one, often get caught up in life and fail to be slow and present to what is here and now. I’m so focused on being “perfect” that I fail to focus on those around me and giving them all of the love and attention they need.
But why is this focus, this being present, so important? What about being there for those in your life is so crucial for their lives and for your own?
The truth is, the little moments are our chance to see God’s love reflected in the world around us. God loves us infinitely and each day he speaks to us in the people and things around us. If we would only pay attention, we would see! He seeks to bring us joy in the little things like snow days, time with friends, a beautiful sunset, or a cute baby laughing.
When other people show us love, they choose to imitate Christ and give us a glimpse into what is waiting beyond this life. Without other people, and the love they give us, our lives begin to feel meaningless. Without love, nothing else seems fulfilling. Who doesn’t think it feels good when people care about them, when others check up them, or when somebody offers to pray for and with us? It makes us feel worthwhile.
But how often do we seek to do the same for others? How many times do you we go out of our ways to imitate Christ’s love for those around us to make them feel worthwhile and important?
Today, I challenge you, and myself, to love three extra people like Christ would. Do an extra act of kindness for them such as listening to your annoying classmate or coworker wholeheartedly and undividedly, holding a door for the person behind you, or giving an extra compliment to that shy girl you see daily. Help them to see just how much God loves them through your actions. Then, make this part of your routine.
